# Gutter Installation in Greater Houston

Seamless aluminum gutter installation across Greater Houston: every run cut and formed on your driveway to its exact length. No joints along the run means no seams to fail — and joints are where almost every gutter starts leaking.

Most Houston homes are on 5-inch gutters that were never sized for the roof above them. The sizing guide below shows whether yours are.

**Where those numbers come from.** Standard sizing tables give a 5″ K-style gutter about 5,520 square feet of drainage area and a 6″ about 7,960 — then divide by the rainfall rate you are designing for. The figures above are at four inches an hour, which is what most published charts assume. Houston gets worse than that several times a year, which is the whole argument for sizing up rather than matching what was there before. We quote seamless aluminum in both sizes, so the only question is which one your roof needs.

### Why Houston is different

Gutter sizing charts are written around a rainfall rate. Houston does not get an average rate — it gets a month’s worth in an afternoon, several times a year, and the chart figure falls in direct proportion.

A gutter sized for steady rain handles a Gulf Coast downpour by overflowing, and it overflows **behind** the gutter, onto the fascia and down inside the wall. That is the damage, not the puddle on the path.

Which is why we size on roof area and pitch rather than on what was there before. If the previous gutters were undersized, replacing them like for like just buys you the same problem again.

One thing we do differently

### 3″×4″ downspouts on every job

Industry standard pairs a 5-inch gutter with a 2″×3″ downspout. We fit **3″×4″ on every installation**, whether the gutter is 5 or 6 inch.

A 2″×3″ is 6 square inches of opening and a 3″×4″ is 12. Published tables put the first at about 600 square feet of roof and the second at about 1,200 — **twice the water**. It is also far harder to block: a pine cone that jams a 2″×3″ elbow passes straight through.

The upgrade costs you nothing extra: a downspout is $130 on a single story and $250 on two stories, whichever size we fit. In Houston it is the difference between a gutter that drains and one that backs up in the storm it was bought for.

Signs yours are undersized

- Overflows in heavy rain even when clean
- Water sheeting over the front edge rather than draining
- Staining or rot on the fascia behind the gutter
- Erosion or splash marks along the drip line
- Only one downspout on a long run

Any of these and cleaning is not the answer — the size is.

What we install

### Premium micromesh

$15/linear ft

Fine stainless micromesh on a rigid frame — the same class of product as the micromesh systems sold at two and three times the price. It filters down to pine needle and shingle grit size, and it holds its shape rather than sagging into the trough.

Covered by the same **24-month workmanship warranty** as the gutters.

Entry level

### Standard mesh

From $7.99/linear ft

Keeps leaves and larger debris out. Under heavy pine canopy, needles will still work through a standard mesh — which is why we will tell you when the premium screen is worth the difference and when it is not.

Fine for oak and general leaf litter. Not the right answer under pines.

For comparison

### LeafGuard

\~$35/linear ft

We do not install it and we cannot — it is sold and fitted only through their own distributors. That is their business model, not a judgment on the product.

At roughly **double our premium screen**, it is worth getting both quotes before deciding.

### Two things nobody tells you about guards

**No guard makes a gutter maintenance-free.** Anyone claiming otherwise is selling. Fine debris, shingle grit and pollen still collect on top of a screen, and under pine canopy the mat that forms on the mesh has to come off. A guard turns a quarterly job into an annual one; it does not eliminate it. If pines are your problem, the honest comparison is a screen against [scheduled pine needle removal from $149](https://www.myroofimprovement.com/roof-pine-needle-removal-services/).

**Some systems make servicing harder or impossible.** Reverse-curve hood systems are fixed to the roof edge, and a gutter under one cannot be cleaned in the ordinary way. Before buying any guard, ask who can service it afterward and what that costs.

Ask any guard salesperson

1. Who can service this once it is installed — only you?
2. What happens to the warranty if somebody else touches it?
3. What is the price per linear foot, not the total?
4. What does it do about pine needles specifically?

The answers vary far more than the products do.

What you may have experienced elsewhere

- **A two-hour in-home presentation** before anyone mentions a price
- **A price that drops** when you say no — sometimes twice
- **"This price is only good today"**
- **A call to a manager** to "get approval" for a discount
- **A total, never a rate** — so you cannot compare it to anything
- **Pressure to sign** before the salesperson leaves

None of that is illegal. It is designed to stop you getting a second quote, because a second quote is what the price cannot survive.

What happens with us

- **We measure and give you a rate per linear foot** — the same numbers published on this page
- **The price is the price.** It does not fall because you hesitate, and it is not higher because you did not
- **No expiry.** Estimates hold 30 days, and we re-issue rather than restart
- **Nobody phones a manager.** The person quoting is the person accountable
- **Take it to two other companies.** We would rather you did — published rates are easy to check
- **Nothing to sign on the day**

If a quote only makes sense when you cannot compare it, it was never a good quote.

What we install

### Aluminum

25–30 years

Will not rust, light enough to hang without heavy bracketry, holds paint, and can be formed seamlessly on site. Baked-on finishes in a range of colors.

The right answer for the overwhelming majority of Houston homes.

Premium

### Copper

50+ years

Genuinely lasts a lifetime and develops a patina many people buy it for. Expensive, and the price moves with the copper market.

Period and architectural homes, where the look is the point.

Situational

### Galvanized steel

15–20 years

Stronger than aluminum and better under falling branches. But it rusts eventually, and Houston humidity brings that forward.

Worth considering under heavy tree cover, not otherwise.

We do not install

### Vinyl / PVC

5–10 years

Cheap, and it fails here. Texas UV makes vinyl brittle, the sections crack at the joints, and it sags between hangers once it has been through a few summers.

We will not fit it. Replacing it twice costs more than doing it once in aluminum.

1. 1 #### Measure and quote

   Every run measured, roof area calculated for sizing, downspout positions planned around where water actually needs to go. You get a rate per linear foot and a total, in writing.
2. 2 #### Formed on your driveway

   Aluminum coil runs through the forming machine on site and comes out as one continuous length per run — cut to your measurement, not to a stock size.

   **The mistake to avoid:** sectional gutters joined every ten feet. Every joint is a future leak, and they are why most gutters start dripping at the corners.
3. 3 #### Hung to a tested fall

   Roughly a quarter-inch of drop every ten feet, toward the downspout. Hidden hangers screwed into the fascia every two feet — not spiked through the front lip. If the fascia behind them has gone soft, we will show you before we hang anything, and [fascia and soffit work](https://www.myroofimprovement.com/siding/) is something we do.

   **The mistake to avoid:** hanging level. A level gutter holds standing water, which grows things and pulls the run away from the fascia under the weight.
4. 4 #### Downspouts and discharge

   **3″×4″ on every job**, positioned so water leaves the house rather than collecting beside the slab. Extensions where the discharge point needs moving.

   **The mistake to avoid:** too few downspouts on a long run. Even a correctly sized gutter overflows if the water has nowhere to go.
5. 5 #### Water tested, then cleaned up

   We run water through the finished system and watch it drain before we leave. Old gutters taken away, magnet sweep for screws, site left clean.

   **24-month workmanship warranty** on gutters and screens. If something we installed leaks or pulls loose in that time, we come back. Keeping them clear afterward is a [gutter tune-up from $149](https://www.myroofimprovement.com/gutter-tune-up/).

<details>

<summary>Do I need new gutters, or just a clean?</summary>

**Replace** if seams have separated, sections sag between hangers, there is rust through the metal, the run has pulled away from the fascia, or the gutters are simply too small for the roof.

**A tune-up is enough** if they are blocked, dripping at a joint, or a bracket has worked loose. That is <a href="https://www.myroofimprovement.com/gutter-tune-up/">$149 rather than a replacement</a>, and we will tell you which you have before quoting either.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What does gutter installation cost in Houston?</summary>

**$9.99 per linear foot** for 5″ seamless aluminum, **$13** for 6″. Screens run **$7.99** for standard mesh to **$15** for our premium micromesh. Commercial starts at **$17.99**.

Those are rates, not totals, so you can check them against anyone else's quote. A 150-foot house in 6″ is roughly $1,950 before screens.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What size gutters do I need?</summary>

It depends on the roof area draining into each run, not the size of the house. At the rainfall rate standard charts assume, **5″ handles about 1,400 sq ft** and **6″ about 2,000**.

Houston beats that rate several times a year, and the figure falls in proportion. Plenty of local homes are on 5″ gutters that were never sized for the roof above them, which is why they overflow no matter how clean they are. We size on the roof, not on what was there before.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why 3″×4″ downspouts on everything?</summary>

A 2″×3″ downspout is 6 square inches of opening and a 3″×4″ is 12. Published tables put the first at about 600 square feet of roof and the second at about 1,200 — twice the water.

It is also far harder to block: a pine cone that jams a 2″×3″ elbow passes straight through. It costs us a little more on every job, and in Houston it is the difference between a gutter that drains and one that backs up in the storm it was bought for.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Does seamless really matter, or is that a sales line?</summary>

It matters. Sectional gutter comes in ten-foot lengths joined with sealant, and **every joint is a future leak** — sealant moves with temperature, and Houston gives it a hundred-degree annual swing to move through.

Seamless is formed from a coil on your driveway into one continuous piece per run. It still has corners and end caps, so it is not literally joint-free, but the long straight runs where water sits have nothing to fail.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What colors can I have?</summary>

Aluminum coil comes in a wide range of baked-on factory finishes, so in practice you are matching trim, fascia or brick rather than choosing from four options. We bring the color card to the measurement.

The finish is applied at the mill, not painted on site, which is why it holds up in Texas sun far better than a repaint.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do you install LeafGuard?</summary>

No — and we cannot. It is sold and fitted only through their own distributors. That is their business model, not a judgment on the product.

Their screen runs around **$35 per linear foot**. Our premium micromesh is **$15**, and it is the same class of product. Worth getting both quotes.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Will guards mean I never clean them again?</summary>

No, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling. Fine debris, shingle grit and pollen still collect on top of a screen, and under pine canopy a mat forms on the mesh that has to come off.

A guard turns a quarterly job into an annual one. It does not eliminate it. If pines are the problem, compare a screen against <a href="https://www.myroofimprovement.com/roof-pine-needle-removal-services/">scheduled pine needle removal from $149</a> before you spend.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do you take the old gutters away?</summary>

Yes, and it is included in the rate. Removal, haul-away and a magnet sweep for screws are part of the job, not a line item added at the end.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do I have to replace the roof at the same time?</summary>

No. Gutters are a standalone job and most of the ones we fit go onto roofs we did not touch.

The one time it is worth pairing them is when the roof is already being replaced, because the drip edge and the gutter line get set together and the crew is there anyway. If your roof is near the end, it is worth asking at the measurement rather than doing it twice.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What warranty comes with it?</summary>

**24 months on workmanship**, covering both gutters and screens. If something we installed leaks or pulls loose in that time, we come back.

Material warranties are the manufacturer's and vary by product — we will tell you what applies to what you have chosen.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do you need money upfront?</summary>

No. **50% when the crew arrives and starts work, 50% on completion** — the same terms as everything else we do. Nothing is due when you book, and the measurement and estimate are free whether you go ahead or not.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How long does it take?</summary>

Usually a single day for an average house, including removing the old system. The gutters are formed on your driveway, so there is no waiting on an order.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do you work outside Houston?</summary>

Yes. Two offices cover the metro — Tomball and Spring Branch — so The Woodlands, Klein, Spring, Cypress, Magnolia, Conroe, Katy, Sugar Land, Bellaire and Pearland are all routine.

The full list is on the <a href="https://www.myroofimprovement.com/service-areas/">service areas page</a>. If you are not sure whether your street is covered, call and we will tell you straight away.

At the rainfall rate standard charts assume, 5 inch handles about 1,400 sq ft and 6 inch about 2,000. Houston beats that rate several times a year, and the figure falls in proportion. Plenty of local homes are on 5 inch gutters that were never sized for the roof above them, which is why they overflow no matter how clean they are. We size on the roof, not on what was there before."

Published tables put the first at about 600 square feet of roof and the second at about 1,200 - twice the water. It is also far harder to block: a pine cone that jams a 2 inch×3 inch elbow passes straight through. It costs us a little more on every job, and in Houston it is the difference between a gutter that drains and one that backs up in the storm it was bought for."

Sectional gutter comes in ten-foot lengths joined with sealant, and every joint is a future leak - sealant moves with temperature, and Houston gives it a hundred-degree annual swing to move through. Seamless is formed from a coil on your driveway into one continuous piece per run. It still has corners and end caps, so it is not literally joint-free, but the long straight runs where water sits have nothing to fail."
