Our usual recommendation
### Fiber cement, for most Houston homes
Not because it is the most expensive — because the three things that destroy siding here are moisture, termites and wind, and fiber cement is unbothered by all three. It will not rot, warp or delaminate, termites cannot eat it, and it is non-combustible.
On the Gulf Coast, **how it is fastened matters as much as the board**. We install to James Hardie’s published fastening and clearance requirements, which is what keeps the 30-year product warranty valid.
When we say vinyl instead
A rental you are holding five years. A budget that will not stretch and a wall that needs covering now. A house where the siding is fine and only one elevation took damage.
Vinyl is not a bad product — it is a shorter-lived one. We will say so rather than pretend the expensive option is the only option.

### Siding
The main wall cladding — fiber cement, engineered wood, vinyl or wood. The part everyone means when they say siding.

### Fascia
The vertical board along the roof edge that the gutters attach to. It takes water off the roof and rots first when gutters overflow.

### Soffit
The underside of the roof overhang, usually vented. Blocked or rotten soffit starves the attic of airflow, which shortens the life of the roof above it.

### Trim
Corner boards and the casings around windows and doors. Trim seals the edges, and failed trim is how water gets behind siding that otherwise looks fine.
### The question worth asking any siding quote
**Does the price include replacing rotten fascia, soffit and trim, or only the siding itself?** On older Houston homes there is nearly always some rot behind the cladding, and it is only visible once the old siding comes off.

Christian and the JC&C Team have been great, from start to finish. I had them do a full roof replacement and Christian was very upfront and direct about the health of my roof and gave me several options with clearly defined details on materials and their process. They took 800 pictures throughout the job to document everything. Yolanda and the office team were able to get me scheduled super fast and communication has been top notch. JC&C replaced the complicated roof on our home in West University this spring. Then in our last storm, we sprung a devastating leak in the roof of our rental home nearby. This older home was slotted to be torn down in 5-6 months at the conclusion of the current lease. So a new roof for less than 6 months was not an option. Went on Angi's List to find a roofers to fix leaks coming into home. Had several come out but JC&C put a temporary fix on during a rainy spell. They were our third, but we went wirh them immediately. Then on top of that, they provided 3 estimates. Damage now up to improvements that would be needed down the road. Finally had it done in under a day. Don't go anywhere else!

I had a great experience with the JC&C team. Like many homeowners, I got several quotes after discovering a roof leak that needed immediate attention. The first company I met with told me I needed a full roof replacement and quoted me around $20,000.
When I met with the team at JC&C, I explained that I had just purchased my first home and wasn't prepared for such a major expense right after my down payment. I even shared what the other company had quoted me (which, in hindsight, probably wasn't the best idea!). Highly professional, my ceiling suddenly caved in due to roof leak. they came out during torrential rains and installed temporary tarps immediately without asking for a pricing or any other conditions. This act of kindness won my heart and I decided to work with them. I want to share my experience with JC&C roofing. As you know, after the last hurricane Beryl, with all the damage to the roofs, it has been almost impossible to find anybody to come and fix things. I called the people who roofed my house and they said that they could not come and would not know when they would. Walking down my neighborhood on Thursday, I saw a truck of JC&C working on a roof. I came to talk to them and told them that I had a relatively small job in my house (the cap of an exhaust pipe had been blown up during the hurricane). He said that is was dangerous to fix it then because it was raining, but that they would come as soon as possible. Well, that meant two days later and now my roof is fixed! Thank you Mr. Paniagua!

On a visit to my elderly parents who live in Sugarland, I live in Austin, I found that a filled rain gutter had been flowing in the wrong direction and caused the end piece of the roof eave and soffit to rot. Being remote, I had to get onto Yelp and try to find a company that could rebuild the soffit, fix bad flashing, and put in a new gutter. This led me to JC&C and they did a fantastic job. From the moment I called them to see if they could handle this type of job, they were in constant contact through: email, text and direct phone calls. They gave me estimated times for the inspection-bid as well as the service and they showed up on time. In addition, they have online pictures (where I got these that I'm posting) of the inspection, during the construction, and the completed project. These pictures assured me of the quality of their work, from my remote home. And although they don't do gutters, part of their bid included gutter replacement which they subcontracted out and I didn't have to go searching for a gutter company. Very pleased with JC&C.

ROOF REPLACEMENT & SUBSEQUENT ROOF TUNE-UPDecember 2022This is a follow-up review from our 2019 roof installation. I called Christian at JC&C Roofing to perform a tune-up and inspection on our existing roof system. His two-man team were proficient in their work. The team was on-time and performed what I consider to be a very thorough inspection and tune-up of our roof system. The tune-up included the following: 1) Caulking all areas at flashings and other areas where water intrusion could possibly pose a problem.2) Checked for nail pops on the shingles.3) Inspected all areas of the roof including turbines and ridge vents.4) Painted all roof jacks to further enhance the roof appearance.They performed a complete power wash of our driveway including our sidewalk in front of the house which made a considerable difference in the overall appearance of the lot and home aesthetics. Christian would not accept any payment for this three (3) hour service which I found remarkable in these times.Once again Christian and his roofing team exceeded our expectations in the performance of their work. Christian, Jennifer and the JC&C Roofing team go above and beyond to make sure their work exceeds the norm. I highly recommend this roofing company to any consumer or business looking for exceptional roof work by a business who maintains a high level of integrity.October 2019After performing extensive research I determined the best possible replacement roof system for our 15 year old roof was a GAF roof system and the best roof Contractor to be JC&C Roofing Company.We selected the following materials for our new roof system: Timberline Ultra HD shingles and Deck Armor UV-stabilized polypropylene on top of decking (under the shingles). This synthetic material is breathable and reduces moisture from being trapped within the roofing system thereby averting mold issues; Storm Guard Ice & Water shield for valleys and penetrations, Pro-start starter shingles to provide optimal wind resistance at the eaves, and Cobra 3 - 12" ridge vents in conjunction with the Lomanco 14" Whirlybird turbines for optimal attic ventilation. I proceeded with calling a few selected contractors, interviewing each personally, and obtaining a quotation for the work which included the GAF - Gold Pledge protection warranty which provides a (25) year non-prorated / no roof leak (workmanship) guarantee with a 50 year warranty on shingles. Christian took considerable time to explain the complete process of preparation, installation and completion of the roof system. Additionally, he provided a checklist which addressed each item to be installed in our roof system. He even came at 8:00 PM the night before the job to insure all materials had been delivered as per our Agreement. JC&C crew members worked like a well tuned machine. It was truly remarkable to watch them function with each man working as an integral part of the team. After the old roof was extracted they began work on the decking to prepare for the new roof. Old rotted decking was removed and replaced. He removed the old roof turbines and relocated new whirlybird turbines to a higher roof point to allow for optimal attic heat extraction.The work was completed in a fluid and professional manner with exacting precision.Upon completion of the roof replacement Christian sent his supervisor to perform some punch-out and do a high pressure wash of the driveway and patio areas including the street in front of our driveway where roof granules had accumulated. He left our property looking much better than before his arrival to perform the work. We now have a beautiful new GAF Ultra HD roof which enhances the asthetics of our home. In my opinion JC&C Roofing is the best contractor for your roofing needs. I do not believe you will find a more friendly, capable and honest contractor than Christian at JC&C Roofing.Thanks Christian to you, Jennifer and crew. Repair an Asphalt Shingle Roof
Need repair work done to my roof and Mr Hernandez came out immediately took pictures and gave a preliminary estimate. His office sent over a detail analysis what would be done if I wanted to proceed with the project. The price was reasonable and the appointment was set. After a little bumpy start when the first group of roofers looked at the job and decided the roof pitch was too steep and drove off. That delayed the start by a couple of days but once the next group of 9 roofers started they were awesome. They worked for 2 & 1/2 days over 10 hours a day and along with the companyâ s owner direct involvement the job was extremely well done, right down to the clean-up. I have already recommended JC&C to several of my neighbors and will to anyone else requiring roofing services.

I don't have enough words to express what an amazing experience we had with JC&C roofing. We had a horrible experience a few years back where we had our money stolen by roofers. I was being overly cautious this time before we choose a company after our last horrible experience. JC&C was patient and available to answer all of the many questions we had. The day before they were supposed to start on my roof I spoke to Christian. He expressed he was concerned because of my roof's condition and we were supposed to be getting a bad storm. He said I want to send someone out free of charge to cover your roof and make sure you don't get interior damage. That's showing absolute professionalism and amazing value for your customers. The day of the job they put boards around my house to protect my windows. They covered all the property with tarps. They used metal magnetic rollers all over the property before they left to make sure all nails were picked up from the ground. Christian communicated multiple times sharing what the job status of the roof was. The next day after my roof was completed he sent someone that power washed all my property to clean off the dust and dirt from the roof job. I can't say enough kind words about JC&C roofing and now we have one of the best well made roofs in the neighborhood!

The service is just perfect from everyone in this company. You are never on hold when you call. The ladies that dispatch the calls are courteous and efficient. The appointments are easy to make and always kept. We had our roof entirely re-done by them. They came on time, and completed the roof on time. Maintenance is absolutely the best. We had a minor leakage after a storm and the repair technician came the next day and fixed it right away. He inspected the entire roof to make sure that everything was in order. Very knowledgeable very professional. I recommended them to several people.

Let me tell you all of the reasons that JC&C Roofing is the way to go for the most important investment you will put on your house. 1 - Product Knowledge. Christian, the owner, came out to provide a quote. He took some measurements and then scheduled a time to come back and deliver his proposal. This allowed him time to compile all of the data and figures to ensure that the quote given is the final price without any hidden expenses. They have several products the offer and will provide detailed quotes and a plethora of information about everything they sell. 2 - Production. Once we decided on the product package we wanted, which was the Diamond Package (thank God for financing). Christian had a crew swarm on our house the very next day. The worked so hard and got 99% of the job done on the first day. The next morning they were back out to finish the last minute touches. The owner was onsite for most of the project, checking in that I was happy with the work and always asking if I had any questions or concerns. 3 - Service. I can't rave enough about Christian. So rare is it to find someone that is polite, kind, funny, honest, and just an overall good person. Christian is good people. Plain and simple. I honestly feel like he treated us like he would want to be treated and I have a great amount of respect for his customer service, dedication to his craft, and earning the respect of those around him. I am confident that if I should have any issues in the near future with this new amazing looking roof, that he would be back out in a hot second to take care of me. Great Product. Great Company. We decided to go with JC&C Roofing which was the best decision we could have made. While sometimes it took a little longer to hear back from Christian, the workers were on time. Fixed all the issues and gave us a brand new roof that is so gorgeous I believe my neighbors are jealous. Christian also added attic vents and took down old satalite dishes at no charge. The kicker was he also had someone come by and pressure wash the house and drive way with no extra charge. Christian stated any problems just to contact him. Add to it he also dealt with our insurance company so we did not have to. I could not ask for a better individual or company to have work on my home!

I discovered several shingles in my backyard after some recent heavy storms in our area and I was concerned for the integrity of our roof. I scheduled an appointment for a roof inspection through JC&C's website and received two emails confirming the appointment. Abraham Barrera performed the inspection, was prompt, courteous, and thorough. He called 45 minutes before arrival, took a number of photos of our roof so we would have proof of any issues, and also inspected an exhaust pipe for our water heater that we had some concerns about. It turned out that the shingles I found in our yard were actually from the neighbor's roof and our roof was fine. Abraham sent us the photos he took even though no work needed to be done and the INSPECTION WAS FREE. I told him I would let our neighbors know about their roof and Abraham gave us a business card to pass along. I don't know how expensive (or not) their repair costs are, but I would definitely hire them to work on our roof in the future.

JC&C Roofing was by far the most professional roofing company we had come give us an estimate. Michael took time and walked on roof, took pictures of damage. They were loaded with work and the wait time was 3-4 weeks and the price may have been reflective of their work load. We had a major hail storm come through our area and the damage was so extensive that our roof needed to be replaced completely and the house needed a lot of cosmetic repair. When you have major work like this that needs to be done, it's never fun to hassle with insurance claims etc. and the business responsible for fixing the damage. My experience with Christian and the men who worked on my house was exceptional. I can truly say that the process was so much smoother on their end than I could have possibly anticipated. I was very impressed with the communication and responsiveness of Christian. He stopped by numerous times to check on the progress and to update me. All the men who worked on my house were very professional and courteous. I will absolutely use this company again for any needs concerning the upkeep of my home. They can and looked at the roof and made repairs to a broken vent. They did not do the actual tune up that I had purchased on Angie's list though. This was a bit disappointing. It seems like they got to the repairs I needed and forgot to do the tune up part. I know this because during my home inspection, they noticed several loose shingles. Adhesive of loose shingles was a big part of the tune up package 🙁

How much does siding replacement cost in Houston?
By material, installed: vinyl **$6–$9 per square foot**, LP SmartSide **$10–$13**, James Hardie **$10–$13**.
A typical 2,000 square foot home runs **$8,000 to $20,000**. What moves it: the number of stories, how much trim, fascia and soffit needs replacing behind the old siding, and whether there is rot to repair once the wall is open.
Which siding lasts longest on a Houston house?
For most houses here, **fiber cement** — James Hardie. Three things destroy siding in this climate, and it is unbothered by all of them: it will not rot in humidity, termites cannot eat it, and it is non-combustible. Installed to James Hardie’s fastening requirements, it carries a 30-year product warranty.
Vinyl is not a bad product, just a shorter-lived one. On a rental, or where the budget will not stretch, it is a sensible choice and we will say so.
How long does siding installation take?
A 1,500 square foot home usually takes **3 to 5 days**; 2,500 square feet takes **5 to 7**. Large or complex homes run 7 to 14 days.
Rot found behind the old siding adds time. So does weather — open wall cavities and Gulf Coast rain do not mix, so we work in sections rather than stripping the whole house at once.
How do I replace a section of vinyl siding myself?
This one is genuinely DIY-able if you have a zip tool:
1. Unlock the course above the damaged piece with a zip tool
2. Pull the nails from the nailing hem
3. Slide the damaged section downward to release it
4. Slide the new piece in until it locks with the course below
5. Nail through the nailing hem — not tight, vinyl needs to move — and relock the upper course
The common mistake is nailing too tight. Vinyl expands and contracts a great deal in Houston heat, and a fixed panel buckles.
Can you repair part of my siding instead of replacing all of it?
Yes, and often that is the right answer. If one elevation took hail or a few boards have rotted, we replace those courses and the trim behind them and match them to what is already on the house. Fiber cement and vinyl can be matched closely; very old or discontinued profiles sometimes cannot, and we will show you a sample before you decide.
Will insurance cover siding damage?
Often, when it comes from a covered peril — hail, wind or impact. Siding damage frequently appears on the same claim as the roof, since a storm rarely hits one and not the other.
We document siding and roof together, write one itemized scope and meet the adjuster on site. We do not file, negotiate or settle the claim — in Texas that is licensed public-adjuster work. More on insurance claims.
Should I replace siding and roofing at the same time?
If both are near the end of their life, usually yes. One trip instead of two, one cleanup, and the trim and flashing details line up because the same crew handled both.

Do you install for commercial buildings?
Yes — offices, retail centers, apartment complexes and light industrial. Commercial work is scheduled around business hours and tenant access. Commercial roofing and exteriors.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, through Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. and Service Finance (a Truist company): **18 months same as cash**, or 8.99% over 70 months, or 9.99% over 120 or 180 months. Subject to credit approval. Nothing is paid upfront either way: 50% when the crew arrives, 50% on completion.

### Why not a big-box installer?
National home improvement chains do not employ roofers or siding crews — they subcontract the work to whoever bid lowest that week, and you may never meet them before they arrive.
