About JC&C Roofing Company

In January 2009, four months after Hurricane Ike, Christian Hernandez started knocking doors in neighborhoods the storm had taken apart. What he saw in the next four years is the reason this company exists.

Christian and Jennifer founded JC&C Roofing Company in 2013. Thirteen years, more than 5,000 roofs, and not one complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau.

Our story

The Woman Who Lost Everything Twice

Hurricane Ike came through in September 2008. Four months later, in January 2009, I started in roofing — canvassing neighborhoods where the damage was still everywhere you looked.

I remember one house in particular. The homeowner came to the door and told me what had happened, and she was in tears.

Someone we believed was impersonating a roofing contractor had taken her check — for the roof, the fence, the A/C condenser and the interior repairs. He made promises about getting it all fixed quickly, and then he was gone.

When she called her insurance company, she found the check had already been cashed. There was nothing anyone could do.

She had lost her roof to a hurricane and the money to fix it to a stranger. And she was still living in the house.

It broke my heart to see what a dishonest contractor could do to somebody. I have thought about her for seventeen years.

And here is what makes it worse

Texas does not license roofing contractors

There is no state register to check. No license number to verify. Anyone can print cards, buy a truck magnet and knock on a door in a damaged neighborhood, and there is no official way for a homeowner to tell the difference.

We still hear versions of this every week — a roof that failed within a year, and a contractor whose phone no longer connects.

So the burden of proof falls on you. Which is why everything below exists.

In 2013, Jennifer and I founded JC&C Roofing Company. Four years in the trade had shown me exactly what I did not want to build.

No middleman contractors. No salespeople working on commission. The owner on the quote and accountable for the work. Prices published, so nobody has to guess whether they are being taken advantage of.

Thirteen years later, and more than 5,000 roofs, we have never had a complaint filed against us with the Better Business Bureau. That is the number I care about most.

What we did about it

Seven Rules, All From the Same Doorway

None of these is marketing. Each one exists because of what we saw in those four years, and each one is published where you can hold us to it.

Prices published

Twenty repairs priced. Gutters by the linear foot. Roof packages by the square. Decking at $90 a sheet with the first five free.

A homeowner who can check a price cannot be taken advantage of on it.

See the prices

No hammers on your roof

Some contractors fake hail damage with a ball-peen hammer to inflate a claim. We bring chalk and a camera. Nothing that can make a mark of its own.

Watch what comes out of the van. It is the simplest test there is.

The inspection

Reports say what we found

We are sometimes asked to describe a roof more favorably than it is — before a sale, or to support a claim. We decline the work.

And we do not invent damage to justify a bigger job either.

Our reporting policy

No pressure, ever

The price does not drop because you hesitate. Estimates hold 30 days. Nobody calls a manager for approval. Nothing to sign on the day.

If a quote only makes sense when you cannot compare it, it was never a good quote.

How we quote

We say no to work

Repairs we cannot guarantee. Brittle roofs where walking them does more harm than the service prevents. Government contracts outside what we do.

A company that never turns anything down is telling you something.

Where we stop

Photographs of everything

Not a few finished shots — the whole job, from tear-off to final sweep, linked to you.

A contractor who documents everything has made it impossible to cut a corner quietly. That is the point of it.

The process

The owner is on the job

No middleman contractors. No commissioned salespeople. The person who quotes your roof is the person accountable for it, and you can reach them.

The woman in that doorway could not find the man who took her money. You will always be able to find us — two offices, both with addresses you can drive to.

Both offices

Do not take our word for any of it

Texas does not license roofing contractors, so we would rather you checked us somewhere we do not control.

Our core values

GIVERS

Six principles, and the acronym was not an accident. Each one means something we actually do rather than something we would like to be.

Genuine

Authenticity in every action

We say what we found, quote what it costs, and tell you when the answer is that you do not need us. Honesty is only worth something when it costs you a job occasionally.

Intentional

Nothing left to chance

Every fastener pattern, every sealed penetration, every photograph. A roof fails at the detail nobody thought about, so we think about the details.

Value Family

Yours and ours

This is a family company — Christian and Jennifer, and crews who work for us rather than for a subcontractor. We treat your home the way we would want ours treated.

Excellence

Beyond the specification

Every install exceeds manufacturer specification. Hand-sealed perimeters, valleys and penetrations. 3x4 downspouts on every gutter. It costs a little more and it is not negotiable.

Respect

For you, your home, and your time

We arrive when we said. We protect the landscaping. We sweep for nails before we leave. And we do not waste an hour of your evening on a sales presentation.

Service-Minded

The job is not the transaction

Answering at 2am. Coming back after the next big rain to check the repair held. Telling somebody their roof has five years left when we could have sold them a new one.

These guide every decision, every installation and every conversation — and if we ever fall short of one, we would rather you told us than told everyone else. hello@jccroofing.com reaches us directly.

The JC&C Roofing Company office building at 1431 Graham Drive, Tomball, Texas

A door you can knock on

This Is Our Office. It Has Been Here Since 2013.

1431 Graham Drive, Tomball. Not a mailbox, not a virtual address, not a phone number that forwards somewhere. A building, with our name on it, that you could drive to this afternoon.

There is a second one at 1220 Blalock Road in Spring Branch, which is how we cover both sides of the metro without pretending a single address serves everybody.

After the story on this page, we think a physical address is worth more than any badge we could put next to it.

Family-owned, and we mean it literally

Christian and Jennifer

Christian runs production and looks after customer relationships. Jennifer handles the business side. Between them they see every job that goes through the company.

Our crews work for us, not for a subcontractor we found last week. That is why we can promise the person who quotes your roof is accountable for it — there is nobody in between to point at.

Latino-owned and family-run. Direct, accountable, and answerable to the community we live in.

Not a contractor

Meet Colter Jose

Our mascot, and the only member of the team who has never been on a roof. He turns up on our trucks, our signs and occasionally our paperwork.

He is here to make the point that roofing does not have to be stressful or adversarial. Everything else on this page is serious. Colter is not.

Come and talk to us

Free inspection, photographs of everything we find, and an honest answer — including when the answer is that your roof is fine.
