Roof Replacement Packages in Houston
Four systems, four prices, and the full specification of each. Most contractors give you one number and a shingle colour chart. Here is exactly what changes as the price goes up, so you can decide where you want to stop. Roof replacement packages Houston.
Essential
$325–380/sq
Superior
$380–450/sq
Platinum
$450–550/sq
Diamond
$550–650/sq
A square is 100 square feet of roof. A typical Houston home is roughly 20 to 30 squares, so a package at $400 a square is around $8,000–$12,000 on a 20–30 square roof.
Roof being replaced on an approved insurance claim? These tiers do not apply to you. Insurance replacements are installed as GAF Golden Pledge with Timberline UHDZ as standard — the top of the range below — because the settlement covers the full system. Storm damage & insurance claims.

Worth understanding before you choose
Two different hail tests, measuring two different things
Platinum costs more than Superior but shows a lower wind figure and the same UL class. That looks wrong until you know what it is actually rated by.
UL 2218
A 2-inch steel ball, dropped twice from twenty feet.
A laboratory test with a hard sphere. To reach Class 4, the highest of four classes, the shingle must show no cracking after two strikes on the same spot.
It is the standard Texas insurers use for the mandated discount, and it is a genuine measure of toughness.
IBHS
Real shingles, bought from a shop, hit with realistic hail.
The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety buys products off the shelf rather than accepting manufacturer samples, replicates the physics of actual hailstones, and scores granule loss, dents, cracking and full compromise separately.
Their finding, and the reason the programme exists: not all shingles labelled impact-resistant perform the same. A Class 4 label is not a guarantee of real-world hail performance.
Why Platinum uses Owens Corning Duration
On the IBHS scorecard, Duration ranks first among architectural shingles and second overall across every asphalt shingle tested — including products carrying a higher UL class. That is performance against realistic hail, measured on shingles bought from a shop.
Do not take our word for it. Look it up on the IBHS scorecard — they publish it precisely so homeowners can. Ratings are updated as new products are tested, so check the current table. Our guide to Class 4 and impact ratings explains how the two tests differ and what the Texas insurance credit really is.
So Platinum is not a weaker Superior. It is a shingle chosen for independently verified performance against realistic hail rather than a laboratory steel ball. Diamond gives you both — UL 2218 Class 4 and the strongest warranty GAF registers.

What the Per-Square Price Does Not Cover
Package pricing assumes a standard Houston residential roof. These six things are quoted separately, and we tell you before starting — never afterwards.
- Structures over two storeys Additional safety equipment and labour. Three-storey work is quoted individually.
- Commercial and multi-family A different pricing structure entirely. Commercial roofing
- More than one layer of tear-off Two layers is twice the removal and twice the disposal.
- Pitch steeper than 10/12 Special equipment and safety measures, and slower going.
- Decking beyond 5 sheets The first five sheets are free. After that, $90 a sheet — photographed and shown to you before we replace anything.
- Gutters, trim, siding and soffits Separate trades, separately quoted. Gutters · Siding
Five free sheets is deliberate. Almost every replacement turns up some soft decking, and a contractor who includes none is planning to charge you for all of it once the roof is open.
Common Questions
Which package should I choose?
Most people land on Superior — it is the first tier where GAF's warranty attaches rather than only ours, and where drip edge, vent replacement and purpose-made ridge cap are all included.
Choose Essential for a rental or a house you are selling, as long as you understand what is left out. Choose Platinum if hail is your main worry and you want a shingle rated against realistic impacts. Choose Diamond if you intend to stay in the house and want the longest warranty available.
If impact resistance is what you are weighing, our guide to Class 4 roofs covers what the ratings mean and what the Texas insurance credit actually is.
What is a square, and how many will my roof need?
A square is 100 square feet of roof surface — not floor area, so it is always more than the size of the house. A typical Houston home is roughly 20 to 30 squares.
At $400 a square, a 25-square roof is about $10,000. Our estimator measures your actual roof from satellite imagery in about a minute. Check your roof
Do these prices apply if insurance is paying?
No. On an approved claim we install GAF Golden Pledge with Timberline UHDZ as standard — the Diamond specification — because the settlement covers the full system.
These tiers exist for customers paying cash, who are deciding how much to spend. An insurance customer is not making that trade-off, so there is no reason to offer them less. Storm damage & claims
Can I mix components between packages?
Within reason, yes — though the enhanced warranties are the limit. GAF sets which components qualify for Silver and Golden Pledge, so substituting parts can put a registration out of reach.
Tell us what matters to you and we will tell you honestly what it does to the warranty. Often the answer is that a single upgrade is worth it and the rest is not.
Is financing available on these?
Yes, through the Wells Fargo Home Projects credit card issued by Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., and through Service Finance Company, a Truist company. Promotional 0% APR is available to qualified applicants, subject to credit approval.
Not sure which one fits?
Free inspection first, then we go through the options with the actual roof in front of us. Sometimes the honest answer is that yours does not need replacing yet. Roof replacement packages in Houston.
