#Roof4Braves: A Free New Roof for a Houston Hero
Once a year, JC&C Roofing Company gives a complete new roof to someone who serves others: a member of the military, a first responder, a teacher or a nurse. The winner is announced every Fourth of July.
No sponsors and no catch. We pay for the materials and the labor ourselves, because the people who protect our families deserve a roof that protects theirs.
Who can be nominated
Four Kinds of Heroes, One Free Roof
Since 2017 we have honored the people who protect and serve: determined, selfless, and committed to their teams, classrooms, patients and communities.
First responders
Firefighters, police officers, EMTs and paramedics: the people who run toward the emergency the rest of us run from.
Teachers
The educators who shape the next generation, often buying supplies with their own money and staying long after the bell.
Nurses
The nurses who care for our families through long shifts, hard nights and the moments that matter most.
Why we do it
Paid for by us. No sponsors.
#Roof4Braves is not a promotion run with a manufacturer or an insurance company. JC&C Roofing Company is a family-owned Houston business, and every year we cover the full cost of one roof, materials and labor, ourselves. While our heroes take care of our communities, we want to take care of the roof over their families.

How it works
From Nomination to a New Roof
Nominate
Send a one to two minute video by June 20. You can nominate yourself or someone you know.
Finalists
Our team reviews every nomination and picks three finalists. Their videos are shared on our Facebook page.
Winner
The winner is announced on July 4, here and on our Facebook page.
New roof
Installed the week of July 4–11, weather permitting. Tear-off, materials, labor and clean-up are all on us.
How the winner is chosen
Service, story and need
One roof a year has to count. We look at three things together:
- Service. What the nominee does for our country, our community, their students or their patients.
- Story. Specific examples in the video, not general praise.
- Need. The roof should make a real difference to the family that receives it.
Likes and comments on the finalists’ Facebook videos count toward the decision. JC&C makes the final choice.
Make your video stand out
Five tips for a strong nomination
- Keep it to one or two minutes. Make every sentence count.
- Be specific. Tell one real situation that shows why this person deserves it.
- Explain the job. People watching may know nothing about it, so detail matters.
- Show the roof. A few seconds of the roof and why it needs replacing helps.
- Film sideways, in good light, somewhere quiet.

Every year since 2017, one family. These are some of their stories.
Official rules
- One roof a year, with a retail value of up to $15,000 (roof only).
- Who: a member of the military, a first responder, a teacher or a nurse.
- The home: a one- or two-story single-family home that the nominee owns and lives in.
- Where: Harris, Fort Bend, Brazoria, Montgomery or Waller County. Finalists must show proof of address.
- How: a one to two minute video, submitted by June 20. No nominations by phone, mail or walk-in.
- When: the winner is announced on July 4; installation is the week of July 4–11, weather permitting.
- No purchase necessary. There is nothing to buy, now or later.
#Roof4Braves Questions
Who can be nominated for #Roof4Braves?
Members of the military, first responders (firefighters, police officers, EMTs and paramedics), teachers and nurses who own and live in a one- or two-story single-family home in Harris, Fort Bend, Brazoria, Montgomery or Waller County.
Can I nominate myself?
Yes. You can nominate yourself or someone you know. Every nomination needs a one to two minute video.
How do I submit a nomination?
Send the video and the nominee’s details by June 20. Nominations are not accepted by phone, mail or walk-in.
How is the winner chosen?
JC&C reviews every nomination and selects three finalists, looking at service, the story in the video, and need. The finalists’ videos are shared on the JC&C Roofing Facebook page, where likes and comments count toward the decision. JC&C makes the final choice.
When is the winner announced?
Every year on July 4. The new roof is installed the week of July 4 to July 11, weather permitting.
What does the winner receive?
A complete roof replacement on the home, with a retail value of up to $15,000 (roof only): tear-off, materials, labor and clean-up.
Who pays for the roof?
JC&C Roofing Company. There are no sponsors; we cover the materials and labor ourselves, one roof a year, as we have since 2017.
Is a free roof taxable?
A prize can count as income. We recommend the winner ask a tax professional how it applies to them.
