The warranty question nobody asks until the claim
GAF's WindProven™ Limited Wind Warranty carries no maximum wind speed limitation for fifteen years. On open Waller County prairie that is the only wind warranty worth having. It costs nothing extra and needs no registration — but it does not come automatically, and most roofs never qualify for it.

A contractor can promise you the unlimited warranty and still not install the system that earns it. Nothing stops them saying it. The homeowner finds out at the claim, which is the worst possible moment to find out.

Ask whoever is quoting you. If they cannot name them, the warranty they are describing is not the warranty you will get. Ask for it in writing on the estimate, as line items — not as a sentence about coverage.
We build every roof to the qualifying specification and put each component on the estimate by name. On a coastal job it is the same six-nail ring-shank pattern the windstorm inspector checks anyway.
The WindProven™ remedy is the reasonable cost of replacing blown-off or damaged shingles and hand-sealing any that have not sealed. Wind warranty coverage runs fifteen years. Frequently, yes. A lot of Brookshire's new construction went up quickly during a building boom, and the shortcuts show at three to eight years — starter strip installed wrong, cut shingles used as ridge cap, nails through the seam, no ventilation. The roof looks new from the street and leaks anyway.
