Brazoria County is one of the fourteen coastal counties where the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association writes wind and hail coverage. If your windstorm policy is through TWIA, the roof has to be certified — not the whole house, the roof.

A TDI-appointed windstorm inspector checks the roof during installation — deck fastening, underlayment, nailing pattern, starter, ridge — and issues a Certificate of Compliance. Without it, TWIA will not cover the roof. A roof installed without one cannot be certified afterwards.

Six nails per shingle is the TWIA minimum, not a JC&C preference. Ring-shank. Deck re-nailed to spec. Sealed starter and manufacturer ridge cap. We build every roof this way anyway — in Alvin, the inspector confirms it.

The inspection is a separate fee to the appointed inspector, and it has to be scheduled before the shingles go on — the inspector needs to see the deck. We schedule it as part of the job. If a roofer quotes Alvin without mentioning it, ask why.
A real Alvin job — and an increasingly common one

GAF's WindProven™ Limited Wind Warranty carries no maximum wind speed limitation for fifteen years. On the Gulf Coast that is the only wind warranty worth having. It costs nothing extra and needs no registration — but it does not come automatically.

What happens without it
The roof falls back to the standard wind coverage: 130 mph with special installation, 110 mph without. Same fifteen years, same shingle on the surface — a different warranty underneath.
A contractor can promise you the unlimited warranty and still not install the system that earns it. The homeowner finds out at the claim, which is the worst possible moment.
We build every roof to the qualifying specification — the same six-nail ring-shank pattern the WPI-8 inspector checks. Ask any roofer quoting you which four GAF accessories they are using. If they cannot name them, the warranty they are describing is not the one you will get.
The remedy is the cost of replacing blown-off or damaged shingles and hand-sealing any that have not sealed. Wind coverage runs fifteen years. TWIA covers wind and hail only, with its own deductible — typically a percentage of dwelling coverage — and every TWIA policy requires a storm-created opening before interior damage is covered. Your homeowner policy handles everything else. After a hurricane in Alvin you may have two claims with two carriers, and we photograph the roof so both have the same evidence.
